Yankee Doodle Dandy

So the 4th of July came and went, without a sparkler, bottle rocket, roman candle, or anything of the sort for me. (Although it did come with a bottle of wine, please believe.) It was actually kind of a bummer, probably the first 4th I've spent without much of a celebration. Although it was fun when at breakfast two of the directors made the two English counselors stand up and shouted "No taxation without representation!" at them (all in good fun of course, they knew they would take it with a laugh. That however was the extent of my celebration. I was definitely thinking of everyone at home who was playing mud volleyball, watching parades, watching fireworks (how was the view from the deck, Dad?), and drinking beer. (Kirk I'm assuming it was an "i lost count" night, seeing as how much you love America and love to celebrate it.)

Besides that, not a whole lot of news here. My kids this session are a little more difficult, but they are alright. I'm kinda bummed that they are here for two weeks though, because my one week kids had a lot more personality and were alot more fun. Oh well, a few beatings in a burlap sack may be in order and then we'll be ok (kidding, kidding). I have my day off on Friday, which I am looking forward to as usual. Rumor has it some are going to Tahoe, so hopefully I get to get in on that. (No, I do not think they will be anymore drunken canoeing, don't worry).

Also, I have been bike-riding during my off-period, as I decided it would be good to start to do something physical. It has been going alright, except mountain biking (what with the hills and such) is way difficult. I have been able to manage though. Hopefully no more spills as well.

Thats about all I have for now, thanks for reading, get at me.

Hey, Andy you were missed on the fourth. The food was burgers, brats ,potatoe salad, pasta salad, and pie. Fortunately no major problems like grease fires. As far as fireworks Randy Maigaard had to point out to us that you couldn't see the fireworks from the deck but did see them well from the front yard. Ultimately, a good time was had by all although you, your sister, your brother, and Stephanie J. were missing.
Have a good time on your day off and I look forward to your next post

hey man, i was just checking out the 'book and saw your link to the blog. this is a pretty sweet idea. sounds like you're having a good time out on the opposite coast - i wouldn't mind some drunken canoeing as an alternative to working 60 hours a week. i'll keep checking this thing now that i know about it and i hope you don't have any kids as insufferably annoying as i was back in the day. stay alive

We had a quiet observance here as little happened just the usual, Jason Barryman was stopped in Ames for some driving offense and the neighbor's dog was lost and other kinds of events you get in the paper. We do see that it's been very hot in Calif. and hope that is not the case at the Mountain Camp. Keep smiling

Pretty tame celebration in Mpls as well. I played golf in the morning. Would you believe that I had three pars on the back 9 (including two in a row) and still couldn't break 50? Those snowmen will get you every time. However, Laphonso Ellis and son came into the clubhouse as we were enjoying the 19th hole. They teed off around 2:30. I think he's following me.

We didn't go see any official fireworks, but enjoyed a well-done illegal display in our back parking lot. Ah, the joys of city life. Miss you, take care of yourself.

OK, are we the ONLY ones in the family who actually went to see fireworks!?! ...not just once, but three times! Missed ya, tho, when Lee Greenwood sang "Proud to be an American" - seeing as how you like that song about as much as PAPA Tom likes "Silent Night".
Fed-ex just picked up your package. Since I didn't send it before, I added a little something edible to the collection. Hope it makes the trip O.K. Miss you Buddy, and I hope you're having a good time!
Love, MOM

P.S. Please warn John of the perils of drunken canoeing - don't forget the 'shrinkage' issue when the water is cold!
